love ya, bro.

today, i had to make a phone call that i've been dreading for a while now.
i never thought i'd experience this, but when my brothers joined the military i knew the day was coming.
but, it came faster than I thought.

i gripped the phone with my sweaty palms.
a knot formed in my throat.
"hey bro," i began.
we talk.
and then it's time.
i don't want to let go and hang up.
but i have to.
the bus is waiting.
an airplane is nearby, ready to take him across the ocean, to that sandy place.
it's dangerous.
suddenly, war becomes more serious. i thought i had accepted that fact.
but the talk becomes the walk now.
he's leaving.

[see you when you get back, bro!]

Parris Island, round two!

Some of you will remember my post back in November about my trip to Parris Island. I have one brother who graduated then and I'm back here now for my second brother's graduation!

I'm so proud of him!

(And. After several trips south, I want to move here!! Also, stay tuned for more baby pictures and senior shots when I return from the south!)

Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving has taken on a completely new meaning for me. My brother finally graduated from Marine boot camp yesterday, after being away since August. He has changed so much (that's probably an understatement), but it's wonderful to see. I am so proud of him!

My other brother, Josh (pictured below in the camo-colored hoodie) also leaves for Marine boot camp in just a few weeks. This thanksgiving, I am so thankful to God that He has blessed me with a wonderful family and that we can spend the holiday together, because we are growing up and being together won't always be possible.

What are you thankful for?

Other things I am thankful for?
-God (but I think that's a given)
-the fact that it's Thanksgiving and tomorrow, I can listen to Christmas music without being teased.
-that school is nearly over.
-wonderful friends.
-photography!
